June is entertainment ratings awareness month

Most gamers already know about the ESRB Rating Guide, but did you know that June is the Entertainment Ratings and Labeling Awareness Month?

This is our month to celebrate one of the most effective ratings systems in the entertainment industry.

The ESRB Rating Guide empowers consumers to make their own decisions about video game purchases rather than a system in which government regulations make those choices for us.

In other words, ESRB works just like the movie and music labeling system. (That's right - the movie and music industries aren't federally regulated; both the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ratings are independently administered).

We want to hear from you: Are independent ESRB ratings better than federal regulations? Parents, how have ESRB ratings influenced the games you enjoy with your children?
